![]() Windows 95 I basically went from Win 3.11 straight to Win98SE .And never used 95 much.Somehow, it's very basic and feels strange to use Windows 95. Pictures of a Windows 95B install-
![]() The install starts out with the Scandisk screen.
![]() Windows 95 was released August 24,1995 Unsupported as of December 31, 2001
![]() System Requirements: 486DX / 25 MHz CPU,8 MB of RAM,45 MB of free hard disk space, CD-ROM drive,and a VGA monitor.
![]() You could also buy this on a set of 25 floppy disks.Install was closer to 90MB of space.
![]() The first Windows with an Certificate of authenticity code box. What a pain. There is a 'how to' install Windows 95 at: windowsreinstall.com .
![]() This 'clean' install of windows completed in 17 minutes. We used a Win98 bootdisk for CD support. But we didn't have to add display drivers and stuff. It was actually rather simple on our vintage Packard Bell, all the drivers were automatic.
![]() Just the typical install, and it did setup our 3Com network card just fine.Amazing!
![]() The optional DOS startup disk did not have CD support in those days. Nobody complained about the 'basic' graphics, did they ? Anyway...
![]() eventually finding Weezers "Buddy Holly" video in the 'extras' made up for it, in my book.
![]() This was the greatest innovation in computer software, ever. Easy to say.
![]() More powerful, more fun. Now any idiot could operate a computer, too.
![]() No more 'messing' with IRQ settings, or memory blocks. It's automatic set up now.
![]() Not to mention this was the 'first' Windows to come on a CD-ROM . Floppy installs were too slow.
![]() This was when the 'bottom' fell out of the PC market. If your system didn't have a math co-processor,you were stuck in the stone ages. But that was also good news for people looking into their first computer; used computers were selling at 10% of their new price.
![]() Oops. well. Nobody is perfect.
![]() Did anyone ever 'log on' ? It would have saved many a virus infection if we had all just done it.
![]() Ummmm, yeah. Who took the CD... It's still in there, silly! Geez!
![]() It seemed funny to me that to change the time zone now would take 5 minutes, but it was a snap after the install, when Windows was running.
![]() No printer today. Now, we see if the install went okay, on the rebooot.
![]() I have often wondered why Microsoft chose clouds for the startup/shutdown screens. And worse, why they added sounds to those events. Often the sound files got corrupted, and the system would not shut off like it should. One of my first adjustments is to turn those off.
![]() The 'default' monitor never gets installed until Windows is running.Maybe it's a system check.
![]() Welcome. The option to 'do not show this screen at startup' didn't come until the second boot.
![]() My Computer, on windows 95B. Pretty clean style.Without all the 'eye-candy'.
![]() The display properties looked different than 98. The Start Menu . END. Close |
